UMD Sends Another Message of Hope to Australian Bushfire Victims and Survivors

In the wake of the devastating bushfires which have killed over 181 Australians and destroyed hundreds of buildings including the St. Kliment Ohridski Macedonian Orthodox Monastery in King Lake, Victoria, the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) would like to express its sadness for the tragic events and wishes for a speedy recovery of the affected communities and the scarred environment.

According to Ordan Andreevski, Director of Australian Operations for UMD “climate change, drought, bushfires, unsustainable development and strategies for improving the health and well being of the social and ecological system for current and future generations are issues that unite humanity.  They provide a platform for joint planning and migration towards a sustainable future.”

Civil society organizations like United Macedonian Diaspora can play an important role in facilitating closer bi-lateral and multi-lateral relations and cooperation across a whole range of strategic issues that face all nation states, regions and the planet.  Diaspora organizations can also provide mechanisms for philanthropy and volunteering in order to address pressing issues and unmet development needs in the 21st century.  These are some of the issues that UMD will discuss at the forthcoming meeting in Canberra with members of the Australia-Macedonia Inter-Parliamentary Group.
